ClostraBio has reported topline results from its first randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled human study of Anaerostipes caccae CLB101™, a next-generation probiotic strain.

The four-week trial met its primary safety and tolerability endpoint and showed statistically significant differences on secondary efficacy measures, including the Gastrointestinal Symptom Rating Scale and exploratory biomarkers.

Chief executive Ritu Shah noted that the strain is a strict anaerobe isolated from healthy humans that produces butyrate in the lower gut, with complete data due after peer-reviewed publication.

Separately, Anaerostipes Probiotic from Designs for Health, the first commercial product built on the ingredient, won Product of the Year for Microbiome Modulation at the 2026 NutraIngredients USA Awards in Chicago.

ClostraBio was also named a finalist for Start-Up of the Year, and Designs for Health founder Jonathan Lizotte linked both milestones to rising practitioner interest in the category.
