M-63 supplementation significantly increased the relative abundance of Bifidobacterium compared with placebo at 1 week, 1 month, and 3 months of age. By 1 month, 94.6% of infants receiving M-63 had a Bifidobacterium-dominant microbiota compared with 51.0% in the placebo group. M-63 also promoted successful colonization of B. infantis, which was detected in 96.4% of supplemented infants versus 7.6% of controls. Compared with placebo, infants receiving M-63 had significantly lower stool pH, higher fecal acetic acid concentrations, and higher fecal IgA levels at 1 month of age, suggesting enhanced gut microbial activity and support for mucosal immune function. Overall, the study suggests M-63 supports the establishment of a Bifidobacterium-dominant microbiome in early life, contributing to a healthier intestinal environment and supporting the maturation of immune function during a critical period of infant development.
