The wholesome goodness of beetroot has been known throughout the ages and enjoyed by many cultures for its invigorating properties. In 1998 a new wave of appreciation for beetroot was triggered when the Nobel Prize in medicine was awarded to Dr. Robert Furchgott, Dr. Louis J. Ignarro, and Dr. Ferid Murad for their discoveries in the role of nitric oxide as a signaling molecule in the cardiovascular system, which laid the foundation for further research on the health benefits of nitric oxide. Later it was discovered that dietary nitrates turn into nitric oxide (NO), which increases blood flow to muscles and vital organs, resulting in a greater oxygen supply and better stamina. Beetroot has proven to be a more viable source of dietary nitrates compared to other vegetables.

Not all beetroot is created equal. There is nitrate variation within beetroot and nitrate levels were found to depend significantly on the variety of seeds used, agronomic practices, climate and processing conditions. The beetroot used in RedNite® is grown from a consistent seed variety in a specific season and processed within 24 hours of harvest. Controlled farming conditions ensure no bolting of beets and higher yields. A low temperature process optimizes color and importantly, it enriches RedNite® with bioactive anti-oxidants which forms a matrix for optimal utilization of the nitrate and reduce wastage in the "nitrate-nitrite-nitric oxide" pathway.
