Neutraceuticals World — Maypro Completes NDI Notification Process for AKK Probio Akkermansia
Published: July 21, 2026

Maypro has announced that its AKK Probio, an Akkermansia muciniphila ingredient developed by Thankcome Biological Science and Technology, has successfully completed the U.S. FDA’s New Dietary Ingredient Notification (NDIN) process. According to Thankcome, AKK Probio is the first gut-derived Akkermansia muciniphila strain of human intestinal origin to achieve this regulatory milestone. The NDIN process evaluates safety, strain identity, manufacturing quality, toxicology, and supporting scientific evidence, providing supplement brands with greater confidence in regulatory compliance.
Backed by seven human clinical studies, multiple peer-reviewed publications, and 18 patents, AKK Probio is being positioned as a next-generation microbiome ingredient for applications in metabolic health, gut health, weight management, and healthy aging. The strain has also been deposited in internationally recognized microbial culture collections to support identity verification and global commercialization. Introduced to the U.S. market at SupplySide Global, where it received the Ingredient of the Year award for weight management, AKK Probio continues to gain recognition for its growing body of scientific research, including studies on GLP-1 support, the gut-brain axis, women’s metabolic health, mood, sarcopenia, and healthy aging.
