A new randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study found that Maypro’s Oligonol, a low molecular weight lychee fruit polyphenol ingredient, may help improve endurance performance in middle-aged long-distance runners. The study, published in the Journal of Exercise and Nutrition, involved 34 male and female runners aged 45 to 64 who received either a placebo or 200 mg of Oligonol daily for 60 days.

Participants who took Oligonol showed significantly greater improvement in running distance during a 12-minute treadmill test compared to the placebo group. They improved by about 70 meters and also reported a two-point reduction in perceived exertion, suggesting they were able to run farther while feeling less fatigued.

Researchers noted that Oligonol may support endurance by improving energy metabolism efficiency and fatigue resistance. Maypro and Amino Up highlighted the ingredient’s potential for sports nutrition products, citing its clinical validation, bioavailability, antioxidant activity, blood flow support, and possible recovery benefits.
